June 9, 2006 Tarrant to kick off campaign for House
Democrat Shawn Z. Tarrant, president of the Ashburton Area Association, is set to kick off his campaign for the House of Delegates' 40th District tomorrow with some high-powered support: Mayor Martin O'Malley and Del. Salima S. Marriott, a district incumbent.
O'Malley's campaign confirmed that the mayor is set to appear at Tarrant's fundraiser, but that his presence is not an official endorsement.
The district is represented by Marriott, Marshall T. Goodwin and Catherine E. Pugh, all Democrats. Marriott and Pugh are running for the district's Senate seat vacated by retiring Sen. Ralph M. Hughes. Goodwin, who was appointed to his seat in 2003, is running for election.
Tarrant, 40, is seeking one of the two open seats along with several other Democratic candidates: Frank M. Conaway Jr., son of the city's clerk of courts; Antonio Hayes, an aide to City Council President Sheila Dixon; and Sarah Matthews, a member of the Baltimore City Democratic State Central Committee.
